We have to break it to you: Mitch McConnell’s proposal does NOTHING for America’s workers.
In fact, it offers:
$0 for the Postal Service ✉️
$0 for state and local governments
$0 for hazard pay ⚠️
老王安卓下载
$0 for the uninsured/underinsured
We have a plan that we can be proud of. It’s called the HEROES Act, and it has been on Mitch McConnell’s desk for 80 days. It passed the House 80 days ago and is ready for passage.
Will you call your U.S. senators now and urge them to pass the HEROES Act?
The HEROES Act, a comprehensive COVID-19 relief package,
has been sitting on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s lap for more than 2 1/ 2
months. Yet as the virus spreads and the economic situation got worse, McConnell opted to do nothing for working people in Iowa.
The insufficient relief package proposed by McConnell last week is $2 trillion short and two months late. The Republican bill drastically reduces the $600 in weekly unemployment benefits that thousands of Iowa families, laid off through no fault of their own, are relying on as a lifeline in these trying and uncertain days. While millions of people are without a job, health care or retirement security, the package also includes a heartless provision from Sen. Mitt Romney that fasttracks Social Security and Medicare cuts.
With summer recess approaching, time is running out. I am calling on Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst to step up and show what it means to be a leader in a time of crisis. Please join me in contacting our representatives and demanding that we provide struggling Iowans the relief they need. The Senate must pass the HEROES Act.

We need real solutions to real problems, not more bailouts for big corporations and tax write-offs for three-martini lunches. Union members and their families across the country are hurting.

Today’s Labor Quote: Florence Reece
Workers can you stand it? Oh, tell me how you can Will you be a lousy scab or will you be a man? Which side are you on boys? Which side are you on?
A Mine Workers union activist who died in Knoxville, Tennessee on this date in 1986 at the age of 86, Florence Reece wrote the song “Which Side Are You On?” after her home was ransacked by Harlan County sheriff J.H. Blair and his thugs during a 1931 strike. Click below for the remix by Rebel Diaz.

Sign the petition to support our students, teachers and school employees!
On July 17th, Gov. Reynolds made a statewide proclamation that will force most Iowa students, teachers into classrooms in a few weeks – at a time when positive cases and deaths are spiking across our state. This morning, Gov. Reynolds further restricted the ability of local schools to keep their students, teachers and staff safe. Now, schools can only go 100% online if they ask the state for permission AFTER more than 15% of people in their county test positive for COVID-19 AND more than 10% of the students in school are absent. To make matters worse, school districts will have to go through that process for EVERY 14 day period that they wish to do 100% online learning. That is ridiculous! Governor Reynolds is playing her party politics at the cost of the health and safety of Iowa’s students, educators and school employees. We know our voices are stronger together, which is why we are asking you to sign our petition below to tell Governor Reynolds that we stand with our teachers, our students and our school employees. Thank you in advance,Iowa Senate Democrats

The GOP has released the details of their latest COVID-19 relief legislation named the “HEALS Act.” The proposed legislation not only cuts unemployment benefits to the 20 to 30 million Americans who are currently out of work, but falls short in just about every area of concern for working families.
“This legislation is a slap in the face to working people in this country,” said International President Robert Martinez Jr. “They have no problem handing out a trillion dollars in tax cuts to corporations, but want to nickel and dime unemployed Americans at a time when they need it the most. It appears the Senate may go on summer recess a week from now without bringing a bill to a vote, leaving millions of Americans to fend for themselves when additional pandemic economic compensation ends this Friday. They need to pass a relief package that benefits the people they are supposed to be representing.”
Please contact your Senators and tell them to pass a relief package that helps working people.
“Disaster is on America’s doorstep,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). “Republicans need to get serious immediately, and work with Democrats to save lives and livelihoods during this devastating time.”
“One of the few things that’s kept our economy from deteriorating further is that these unemployment benefits have boosted consumer spending,” said Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). “That’s why economists say the Republican proposal would cost us over a million jobs this year, and 3.4 million jobs next year.”

Veterans to call on Senate to pass $1 trillion in aid to states, cities, towns and schools
Posted onJuly 30, 2023byadmin
Congressman Jason Crow, Union Veteran’s Council Executive Director William Attig and veteran front-line public service workers from Alaska and Florida to warn that without immediate federal aid veterans’ jobs and the public services they rely on will be on the chopping block WASHINGTON, D.C. – Unless the Senate delivers $1 trillion dollars in aid to states, cities, towns and schools to address massive budget shortfalls caused by the coronavirus, our nation’s veterans could face significant job loss and see cuts to public services they depend on such as access to health care through Medicaid. 13% of all veterans work for state and local governments according to the Economic Policy Institute, making state and local government workers more likely to be veterans than workers in the private sector. Already 1.6 million public sector jobs have been lost since the pandemic began, nearly three times more than the entire Great Recession. Unless the Senate acts soon, the everyday heroes who have served our country and who continue to risk their lives to keep our communities safe, healthy and strong will be thanked with pink slips. BREAKING: Only 28 Percent Approve Of Gov. Reynolds’ COVID Response
Posted onJuly 30, 2023byadmin
Reynolds Has Lowest Approval Rating On Pandemic Among Any Governor
Des Moines, Iowa — A survey conducted by a group of universities that includes Harvard, Northwestern and Rutgers found that Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has the lowest approval rating among her constituents when asked whether they approve of the way she is handling the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Only 28 percent of Iowans approve of the Governor’s handling of the pandemic, which has infected more than 43,000 and killed more than 850 in Iowa.
Earlier this year, the same survey showed that Reynolds had a 54 percent approval rating on COVID, which the Iowa Republican Party and their chair Jeff Kaufmann celebrated at the time. The most recent survey results come after weeks of increased case numbers in the wake of Reynolds’ failed leadership, deciding to fully reopen businesses and as the state has limited the ability of local governments to decide whether to require masks or determine how or if they return to school this fall. Kaufmann and the Iowa GOP have not yet issued a public statement about the most recent survey results.
“Iowans get it. Governor Reynolds is clueless and Iowans are sick and dying because of it,” said Matt Sinovic, executive director of Progress Iowa. “Parents are trying to decide how much risk is acceptable when sending their kids back to school, families are torn apart and trying to decide how to manage this deadly disease, all because our Governor refuses to lead. Meanwhile a bipartisan group of doctors and medical professionals are trying to encourage her to issue a mandatory mask order, only to have their pleas for safety fall on deaf ears. Reynolds needs to start listening to experts and stop playing games with our health and our lives.”
